One of the most incredible wine regions in the world. Picturesque views of the Constantia Valley, Cape Dutch architecture, historic and modern wine cellars, farm-to-table dining, and incredible hospitality.

Given the choice and time, I would have visited the entire Constantia Valley. However, after touring a couple of estates I had shortlisted before visiting, I’ve narrowed down the list to the best wine tasting experiences in Cape Town.

Groot Constantia

The oldest wine farm in South Africa established by Simon van der Stel in 1685, and by far one of my favourite wine estate in South Africa, so much that we visited the estate twice in one week!

They have three wine tasting areas on the estate; these include a Cape Dutch manor house, a wine and chocolate pairing house, and the most popular Cloete Cellar and historical museum. In case you fear to get lost on this massive estate, there is a guided cellar tour called Visitor Route Experience.

The estate boasts a couple of award-winning wines, in particular, the historic Grand Constance, a sweet wine from the Napoleonic era. Groot Constantia is the only place in the world where it ever been produced, and you can buy a bottle (or several) from the Cloete Cellar.

In summary, the best wines at Groot Constantia are undoubtedly the Grand Constance sweet wine, Gouverneurs Reserve and their Chardonnay.

Wine is inspiring and adds greatly to the joy of living.

Beau Constantia

A boutique wine farm with an ultra-modern modern Michelin style restaurant. Located on some of the steepest slopes in the Cape Peninsula with amazing views of Constantia valley, during the day you can see out to Falso Bay in the distance.

Although we did not get to visit in the afternoon for the wine tasting, we were fortunate to secure a table for dinner at the Chefs Warehouse which was one of my best dining experiences in Cape Town, plus we got to do some wine pairing for the full 8-course meal.

Highly recommend trying their wine tasting session in the afternoon or dinner at Chefs Warehouse. Be sure to try their award-winning Cecily and the Lucca wines.
